President Trump signs bill allowing veterans to obtain care outside broken VA system

President Trump signed legislation today that will dramatically expand a program at the Department of Veterans Affairs that lets patients seek care from private doctors if they want to bypass the troubled VA system, while it is being revamped.

Washington Examiner  The Veterans Choice Improvement Act removes barriers that Congress placed around the original “choice” initiative and eliminates an expiration date that would have shuttered the program in August.
“Extending the Choice Program is the right thing to do, but only as a stopgap measure until better solutions are developed and implemented,” said Dan Caldwell, policy director at CVA. “Reauthorizing the Choice Act buys Congress some time to work with Secretary [David] Shulkin on broader choice reforms that will truly empower veterans with the ability to seek care outside the VA whenever they want to.”

U.S. MARINE CORPS VETERAN DOUBLE AMPUTEE silences critics of Trump’s MOAB strike on Afghanistan

There are a lot of critics of this military strike, but I bet the men and women in uniform who served under the Obama regime aren’t among them.

Allen B West  (h/t Emma) This point was driven home by a viral tweet by Johnny Joey Jones, a double amputee veteran, who tweeted out his exact feelings about the Trump military’s decision to drop a MOAB (Mother of all Bombs) GBU-43 bomb onto a fortified ISIS strong hold in Afghanistan this week.

The Obama administration’s hesitancy to act with anything more forceful than a BB-gun and harsh language was and is a well-known source of contention within ranks of on-the-ground military personnel.  A standing but private joke being that Obama ROA (rules of engagement) required service members to obtain permission from enemy combatants before firing at them.

Truthfeed reported on Jones tweet:

“In a viral tweet, Johnny Joey Jones explains that he lost his legs because the Obama era government did not use the tools they had. Instead of using powerful bombs when he could, Obama found it more “politically correct” to risk American lives. Johnny Jones wishes that his military was part of the Trump administration, where that nonsense no longer exists.”

“After critics attacked him, Jones further defended his original point by telling the story of what happened.  They begged to use bombs to clear a minefield ghost town, but Obama’s military said no.”

Jones’ tweet has drawn vital attention but he’s far from alone. In 2015 it was reported that “U.S. military pilots who have returned from the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq are confirming that they were blocked from dropping 75 percent of their ordnance on terror targets because they could not get clearance to launch a strike” and that “Strikes against the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) targets are often blocked due to an Obama administration policy to prevent civilian deaths and collateral damage,… The policy is being blamed for allowing Islamic State militants to gain strength across Iraq.

OBAMA  ordered the military to drop flyers on ISIS trucks so that the ISIS drivers could run away in time. Meanwhile ISIS got 45 minutes of warning.  Obama never actually wanted to bomb ISIS’ core forces. And ISIS knew this. All they had to do was surround themselves with civilians and they would be safe. Just like the Taliban did in Afghanistan.

You went 12 full months while ISIS was on the march without the U.S. using that air power and now as the pilots come back to talk to us they say three-quarters of our ordnance we can’t drop, we can’t get clearance even when we have a clear target in front of us,” [House Representative Ed] Royce said. “I don’t understand this strategy at all because this is what has allowed ISIS the advantage and ability to recruit.”

When asked to address Royce’s statement, a Pentagon official defended the Obama administration’s policy…”

So Obama did send planes with bombs against ISIS, he just didn’t allow the pilots to actually drop them.  He sent other planes to ISIS too – airplanes full of cash via Iran. That was the Obama Department of Defense’s stance. It seems the Trump D.O.D’s stance can easily be summed up by one simple quote from the President-elect in late 2016:

“We will obliterate ISIS from the face of the Earth”
~ Donald J. Trump

THANK TRUMP! Federal immigration officers start arresting and deporting Somali Muslims

Federal immigration authorities have started arresting Somali nationals in parts of DeKalb and Gwinnett counties that have long been havens for newcomers, including in Clarkston, according to African Muslim advocacy groups.

AJC  The arrests came after Somalia’s U.S. ambassador recently told Voice of America his embassy has learned that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is planning to deport about 4,000 of his countrymen. ICE confirmed that, as of last week, there were 4,801 Somalis in the U.S. who have been ordered removed. The vast majority of them are not being detained.

Under the Obama regime, according to ICE, U.S. authorities could not get travel documents to deport people to Somalia. As part of a nationwide operation in February, ICE detained more than 680 unauthorized immigrants from various nations, including 87 people in Georgia.

ICE’s latest arrests also follow President Donald Trump’s attempts to temporarily ban visitors from Somalia and five other Muslim-majority countries as well as refugees from around the world. Omar Shekhey, the executive director for the Somali American Community Center in Clarkston, said as many as 10 Somalis have been arrested in Clarkston, Stone Mountain and in Gwinnett this week alone.

Among those arrested Tuesday in the Atlanta area, according to Cox, was Abdull Issak. A federal immigration judge in May of 1998 ordered him removed. Issak has numerous criminal convictions in DeKalb, Cox added. ICE took Ibrahim Ahmed Musa into custody Wednesday. He was ordered deported in June of 1998, Cox said, but never left.

“ICE will no longer exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement,” Cox said. “All of those in violation of immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention, and if found removable by final order, removal from the United States.”

Trump Trashes “Messy System’s” Court Ruling; Sanctuary City Officials “Have The Blood Of Dead Americans On Their Hands”

President Trump – clearly frustrated at the incessant blocking of his executive orders to ‘Make American Great Again’ – unleashed a tweetstorm this moring threatening to escalate to the Supreme Court and blasting the ‘system’…

“First the Ninth Circuit rules against the ban & now it hits again on sanctuary cities-both ridiculous rulings. See you in the Supreme Court!

Out of our very big country, with many choices, does everyone notice that both the ‘ban’ case and now the ‘sanctuary’ case is brought in… the Ninth Circuit,

which has a terrible record of being overturned (close to 80%). They used to call this ‘judge shopping!’ Messy system.”

While we get the President’s point, we note that it was in fact a U.S. district court judge in San Francisco who ruled against Trump’s Sanctuary City executive order.

Additionally, as The Hill reports, The White House late Tuesday night blasted a ruling by a San Francisco judge who blocked enforcement of the president’s order barring federal funds from so-called sanctuary cities.

“Today, the rule of law suffered another blow, as an unelected judge unilaterally rewrote immigration policy for our Nation,” the statement from the office of the press secretary said.

One again, a single district judge — this time in San Francisco — has ignored Federal immigration law to set a new immigration policy for the entire country…

San Francisco, and cities like it, are putting the well-being of criminal aliens before the safety of our citizens, and those city officials who authored these policies have the blood of dead Americans on their hands.”

The White House called the San Francisco judge’s ruling a “gift to the criminal gang and cartel element in our country.”

“This case is yet one more example of the egregious overreach by a single, unelected district judge,” the statement said.

The White House said it will “pursue all legal remedies” and called it a fight between “sovereignty and open borders.”

We are confident we will ultimately prevail in the Supreme Court, just as we will prevail in our lawful efforts to impose immigration restrictions necessary to keep terrorists out of the United States,” the statement said.

As The Hill notes, according to Snopes, less than one-tenth of one percent of the circuit court’s decisions are reviewed by the Supreme Court.

“Among less than one tenth of one percent of circuit court decisions reviewed by the Supreme Court, about 80 percent of the Ninth Circuit Court’s decisions were overturned,” according to Snopes.

After the ruling on Tuesday, White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said a federal court went “bananas” in blocking the president’s order to withhold funding from sanctuary cities. Priebus also expressed confidence the administration would prevail if the case reaches the Supreme Court.

“It’s the Ninth Circuit going bananas,” Priebus told a group of reporters Tuesday evening. “It’s clear forum shopping that’s going on in this country.”
